Whilst electric “new car” sales have beaten diesel for the past two years the sales of petrol cars outstripped them both.

New car sales have plummeted this year, down 29% in July, shortages of the electronic “chips” and the “pingdemic” being the two main factors rather than demand falling.
People are starting to buy electric vehicles as the awareness and practicality improves. The drive for lower carbon means that the UK plan to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2020 (Used car sales will still continue for years)
I think that we will see a rise of electric cars into the fleet market and once these are available second hand we will see more families taking the opportunity to switch.
